Working primarily as a painter I rely on gesture and mark marking to create abstract images. These often mix traditional and contemporary techniques and processes, opening a dialogue between painting, digital image generation, projection, and animation. In the same way a vibrant colour dulls the longer we look at it, prolonged or repeated viewing can diminish our response to an image. In my current practice I explore methods of altering or reinventing the picture plain to sustain the viewer's engagement. This has led to experiments fragmenting the picture and challenging the traditional boundaries between artwork and viewer. In the work produced for this group show two opposing animations are projected onto a central arrangement of screens. As the viewer moves around the installation a projected beam may be obstructed, revealing more strongly the opposing projection and thus creating an ever changing work.
